large system bearing down on California
This storm, which still hasn’t actually formed, has been a consistent feature on the forecast charts for the past several days and the odds are that it will begin developing in the next 24 hours.
At this point we can expect a very large, and very stormy, W swell (260-300) for Northern and Central California. This storm swell will begin moving in late Saturday and will eventually peak on Sunday. We can expect junky waves in the 10-15’+ range for all exposed areas. Deepwater standout spots will have sets going 20’+ (and probably bigger) as the swell peaks. Conditions will not be great for surfing…storm winds around 30-40 knots are expected to arrive along with the swell. There may be a few pockets of rideable conditions in select areas but in general don’t expect much from this swell.

Fw: WaveWatch Alert
Storm Forming in the North Pacific
Wavewatch Alert for California 2.12.08
A strong, well positioned storm has been brewing NW of Hawaii near the International Date Line. This system as it moves into the Gulf of Alaska over the next 24-36 hours will produce another good-sized swell for Northern and Central California...and a decent sized pulse for Southern California as well.
NorCal will see this WNW swell (275-310) start to arrive quickly on Feb 15th and then peak overnight into the 16th. At this point expect wave heights to be in the consistently overhead+ range while standout breaks see sets going double-triple overhead+ on sets. Deepwater breaks like Mavericks will have the potential to be bigger.

Whatch out for the Shitstorm
The San Francisco Chronicle said Saturday Feb.1st 2.7 million gallons of treated and raw sewage from the plant operated by the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin found its way into the bay, a tidal marsh with currents that could carry the contaminant-filled effluence past Sausalito and Tiburon into San Francisco Bay. The estimated amount of sewage from Thursday's spill could cover an entire football field more than six feet deep and could pose a significant risk to wildlife and potentially to people. To help warn people of the potential dangers should they enter the contaminated water, signs indicating the risk have been posted at San Francisco beaches and along the Marin County shoreline. Tests have been taken of the area water supply to determine the level of contamination, but officials are still awaiting the results. The Chronicle reported the spill occurred when a worker did not activate enough pumps to handle the amount of water traveling through the California plant. |
